BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- Remember the days of tin-can telephones? Kids would attach a string to two cans and make a device that would convey sound. Pringles has a modern twist on that long-gone form of free entertainment.
Teaming up with celebrity blogger and music lover Perez Hilton, the Pringles potato chip brand has an offer through which consumers can send in the original receipt from any four traditional-sized Pringles cans to receive a free Pringles Speaker by mail.
The portable Pringles Speaker fits on top of an empty, traditional-sized Pringles can and attaches to any personal MP3 player or similar music device to create the "Pringles Speaker Can." The acoustics of the empty provides sound and bass anywhere, anytime.
The Pringles Speaker Can is a convenient, portable way for consumers to bring music with them when they do not have traditional speakers handy, including beaches, camping, picnics, boats and summer concerts and festivals.
"During the summer, I love to hike and stay active and what's better than hanging out in the park with friends and family," said Perez Hilton, the Pringles brand's Official Summer Ambassador. "The Pringles Speaker Can is a perfect way to share my favorite summer songs and stay on track with my favorite up-and-coming musicians."
The Kellogg Co. is positioning Pringles as an on-the-go summer snack. The sturdy can keeps crisps more protected than bagged chips, while the recloseable top allows for easy snacking throughout the day. And Pringles cans fit into most car cupholders.
"Summer is all about enjoying the warm weather and sharing fun times with friends and family," said Sam Minardi, Pringles brand manager. "With the Pringles Speaker Can, consumers can enjoy Pringles crisps and then reuse the empty can to amplify their favorite summer music wherever they go."
The promotion runs through Oct. 31, 2012.
Battle Creek, Mich.-based Kellogg Co. is the world's leading producer of cereal, second largest producer of cookies and crackers and--through the May 2012 acquisition of the iconic Pringles business--the world's second largest savory snacks company.
