WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- Convenience retailer QuickChek Corp., a market leader in foodservice with fresh coffee and fresh food programs, has been named as one of the Best Places to Work for in New York State for 2013. The family-owned and operated premier chain has 11 locations in New York's Hudson Valley with expansion plans in other regions of the state including Long Island.
The New York State Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and Best Companies Group, an independent company managing Best Places to Work programs around the country, launched the program in 2007. Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based QuickChek was recently named one of the Best Places to Work in New Jersey for the third consecutive year by NJBIZ magazine.
Companies from across the state participated in a process to identify, recognize and honor the Best Places to Work for in New York State. The first part of the process consisted of an evaluation of each nominated company's workplace practices and policies. The second part consisted of extensive employee surveys to measure employee satisfaction and engagement. Best Companies Group received all of the data then evaluated and ranked the nominated companies, whose practices benefit the State's business, economy and workforce.
QuickChek operates 133 retail locations throughout New Jersey and southern New York, including 12 pharmacy stores and 37 locations with fuel. Privately held, it employs more than 3,400 people. The company opened its first Empire State location in Florida, N.Y., in 2007 and has grown to 11 locations including three in Middletown, two in Kingston, and one each in Monroe, New Windsor, Newburgh, Lake Katrine and Saugerties. A new store in Goshen is scheduled to open in March.
QuickChek stores are large by industry standards, averaging more than 6,000 square feet in size. Their fresh food program features oven-toasted subs and breakfast sandwiches with the company priding itself on its coffee, known for its high quality and wide variety of coffees, roasted using a proprietary select blend.
A typical new store generates approximately $1 million in tax revenue and creates 30 new jobs, a boost for the local economy, said the company.
QuickChek will be formally recognized at an awards dinner recognizing the 2013 Best Companies to Work for in New York State on April 30 in Albany, N.Y.
