Pilot Flying J became the nation’s largest operator of travel centers and the largest seller of diesel fuel to over-the-road truckers after the merger of Pilot and Flying J. Pilot Flying J is one of the top 10 largest privately held companies in the United States, with more 690 outlets in nearly every U.S. state and six Canadian provinces.

The chain is always adding or acquiring new locations. In August 2013, it opened its 13th unit in Arizona, this one along Interstate 10 in Tucson. Earlier in the year, it opened facilities in St. Mary's, Ga., Fort Stockton, Texas, and San Antonio.

There are over 400 restaurants in Pilot Flying J locations across the country. They feature quick fare under 15 national brands, including Subway, Arby's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC, McDonald's, Chester's Chicken, DQ Brazier, Dairy Queen, Denny's and TJ Cinnamon's. The company has continued to upgrade drivers’ lounges, add new gasoline and diesel pumps, enhance showers and remodel restrooms at many locations. All Flying J travel centers in the United States and Canada offer an expanded coffee/deli-bar with many blends and flavors of coffee. Additional acquisitions and remodeling are ongoing throughout the chain.
