Maverik, Sheetz Open New Stores

Sites focus on foodservice, store design and the community

MANOR TOWNSHIP, Pa. & BUFFALO, Wyo. -- The Maverik and Sheetz convenience-store chains both opened new stores this month with a focus on foodservice, store design and community.

Many local citizens showed up for the grand opening of the Manor Township, Pa., Sheetz store on Thursday as company president and CEO Stan Sheetz introduced the store and presented the Pennsylvania Special Olympics with a check for $2,500.

"Thanks to everyone who had anything to do with getting this store going and getting this great team of Sheetz people assembled," said Sheetz, according [image-nocss] to a report in The Kittanning Paper. "Please stop in here every day. We're open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and we've got great food products in there [and] of course, the Made To Order food line and Sheetz Brothers Coffee. Really, we want you in here every day spending all of your money. It's really as simple as that."

After his brief introduction in the blazing afternoon sun, Sheetz presented Pennsylvania Special Olympics with a $2,500 check. "Sheetz, our family, our corporation, have been supporters of Special Olympics for a long, long time," said Sheetz. "In fact, we are the largest supporter of Special Olympics in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We are very strong believers in the cause, and it's a great opportunity to see these folks get the opportunity to compete and have fun."

After all the speeches had been made and the workers of the new Sheetz came together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, most of those in attendance went inside to enjoy the air conditioning, cake and other Sheetz samples.

The freebies included food samples, smoothie and coffee samples, and specialty coffee samples.

The store, which Sheetz Public Relations Manager Monica Jones said has all of the bells and whistles that all new Sheetz stores have, includes a car wash, the convenience store, gas pumps and outdoor dining tables.

Meanwhile in Buffalo, Wyo., a new Maverik store gives the Salt Lake City-based chain its 29th site in Wyoming, with another slated to open in Cheyenne this summer," according to a report in The Buffalo Bulletin.

Jim Child, director of construction for Maverik, told the newspaper customers can find great features inside, including 3-D designs of outdoor adventure, such as mountain climbing or snowboarding.

Maverik Inc. aggressively promotes sports and outdoor recreation themes in its marketing, even buying the name rights for the Salt Lake City-area E-Center, now changed to Maverik Center, home of the Utah Jazz.

The 4,200-square-foot fuel and convenience store also includes "a great bakery," said Child, as well as store sections that specialize in fresh coffee, hoagie sandwiches and yogurt.

Maverik promotes the use of an Adventure Card, which allows customers to purchase fuel at a discount while accruing points that can be redeemed to purchase fuel or conveniences store goods.

Maverik, based in North Salt Lake, has 200 stores in eight states, including Idaho and Wyoming.
