"It's hard to believe," said Walt Maaser the manager of the store. "We had just completed a makeover on the inside of the store on Tuesday, June 25. We were planning a grand re-opening event."

Standing in ankle-high mud in the middle of the store hearing what he had to say while working side-by-side with his crew left and image in my mind that will never go away…

The roadside sign stated "We will be back."

After being closed for 80 days and with a crew working in unbelievable adverse conditions, the store is now open and being welcomed back by the community with hugs and kisses. Allan Foote, the director of stores for Blueox, said that he was amazed how the community filled the parking lot with customers by just turning on the lights signaling to all that the store was now open again for business. The people from the Blueox Corp. are not planning a traditional grand re-opening.

A block party with live music will be provided by Maaser and his band, called Spike & The Boys. The theme for the block party: "Were back and giving back."

"All of our vendors are supplying us with huge quantities of their products to sample throughout the evening," said Maaser. "Were going to give them a party that they all will remember."

It certainly is amazing what Mother Nature can do in less than an hour. It's also truly amazing to see groups of people and organizations working hand-in-hand as a team with no complaints--only complements.

My heroes list is extremely long, yet I would like to pass on special thanks to Walt Maaser the store manager, Mike O'Brien the facilities and compliance manager for Blueox along with all the vendors and associates that came together creating  the most astonishing team that I've ever worked with.

Canastota, N.Y.-based Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes Inc. currently operates more than 85 stores in the upstate New York market. Blueox is an energy company serving the Oxford, N.Y., community. It operates one truckstop and 10 convenience stores, four of which are franchised with Nice N Easy. The remaining stores carry the company's Big Blue's brand.
