ASBPE recognizes CSP editors again for Outlook Survey, retailer profile, in-depth reporting

OAK BROOK, Ill. -- For the second year in a row, the editors of CSP have been honored with ASBPE awards for in-depth feature writing, a retailer profile and original research.

CSP's exclusive Outlook Survey took a bronze national Azbee Award in the category of original research at the Azbee Awards of Excellence banquet July 26. The story, written by CSP senior editor/special projects coordinator Samantha Oller, examined the "cautious optimism" of convenience retailers, how they're evolving their businesses and the top challenges they face over the next year. The Outlook Survey last year also was honored by ASBPE with a national bronze award in the same category.

Oller garnered a regional silver award for in-depth feature writing for her story " The End of E85?" As the cover story of CSP's February 2012 issue, the piece examined market and industry implications of the end of a tax credit for E85.

Angel Abcede, senior editor/content coordinator, won a regional gold award in the category of individual profile for his December 2012 story on Kwik Trip's Don Zietlow, CSP's 2012 Retail Leader of the Year. The two regional awards were presented July 25 at the ASBPE Midwest-South Azbee Awards ceremony.

"The editors who write for CSP have high standards for every story they produce. Our team continuously strives for excellence in journalism, so the validation of their efforts is incredibly rewarding," said Jennifer Bulat, director of editorial production for CSP Business Media.

Abcede has been honored for his executive profiles in the past. Last year he took home a regional gold award for his December 2011 profile of 7-Eleven CEO Joe DePinto, CSP's 2011 Retail Leader of the Year. In 2010 he won a gold award for his December 2009 profile of RaceTrac's Carl Bolch Jr., also named CSP's Retail Leader of the Year.

Oller was the co-author of CSP's June 2011 in-depth examination of food deserts, for which she was awarded a regional gold award last year. She had been honored previously for CSP's Competitive Watch series and for a July 2008 profile on Murphy Oil.

CSP has won 46 awards over the past 13 years, more than all other publications that serve the industry combined.
