QuickChek Takes 'Best Places to Work' Honors in N.J., N.Y.

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- QuickChek Corp. has been named one of the Best Places to Work in both New Jersey and New York State for 2013. It is the fourth consecutive year the Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based convenience store chain has been named to the Garden State list compiled by the weekly business journal NJBIZ. It made The New York State Society of Human Resource Management list for the first time.

"We are very proud to be named one of the best places to work in the two states in which we serve," said QuickChek CEO Dean Durling. "With over 3,500 team members in over 130 stores, we strive to create a positive experience and fun environment where core values are nurtured, hard work is rewarded and leadership is cultivated."

QuickChek operates 136 retail locations throughout New Jersey and Southern New York, including 12 pharmacy stores and 41 locations with fuel.

CSP named Durling Retail Leader of the Year in 2010.

The "Best Places to Work in New Jersey" list recognizes the state's top employers who show a dedication to their employees' growth and quality of life. QuickChek came in 18th in the large company category (more than 250 employees). The company previously made the list in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and received its 2013 award on April 25.

The "Best Places to Work for in New York State" also evaluated each nominated company's workplace practices and policies and measured employee satisfaction and engagement. QuickChek, which has a dozen locations in New York's Hudson Valley, came in 13th in the large company category at a ceremony held April 30.

The independent Best Companies Group evaluated and ranked the nominated companies in both states whose practices benefit that state's business, economy and workforce.

Privately held, QuickChek employs more than 3,500 people. The company's history dates back to 1888 when Durling Farms was founded to serve the central New Jersey region. Over the following 75 years, the Durling Farms brand grew to become synonymous with quality milk and dairy products, delivered fresh to the customer's door.

In 1967, Carlton C. Durling founded QuickChek to ensure that loyal Durling Farms customers had a neighborhood shopping destination not only for their milk but for a full range of deli and other food products. Much more than a typical convenience store, QuickChek has grown to be a market leader in the New York metropolitan area through innovation and its focus on fresh products and friendly employees.

QuickChek stores are large by industry standards, averaging more than 5,000 square feet in size. Their fresh food program features oven-toasted subs and breakfast sandwiches with the company priding itself on its coffee, renowned for its high quality and wide variety of coffees roasted using their proprietary select blend that incorporates only the world's finest beans.

A typical new store generates approximately $1 million in tax revenue and creates 30 new jobs, a boost for the local economy.
