WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kum & Go LC is replacing many of its smaller, older stores with new, larger stores. It opened a new 5,000-square-foot convenience store on Friday, Oct.11, in Marion, Iowa. This store is twice the size of the nearby store it replaces, the company said.

The spacious new store is designed to provide a convenient shopping experience for customers. While the previous store offered a limited hot menu, such as hot dogs and Tornados, the new store has a Go Fresh Market offering a wide array of fresh foods. Options include made-to-order pizzas, baked goods, and breakfast and deli sandwiches made daily in Kum & Go's new onsite kitchen.

Outside, more fueling stations and a large variety of fuel offerings will give customers more choices and value at the pump.

"We work hard to deliver fast and friendly service to our customers," said president and CEO Kyle J. Krause. "This new store and our existing store on Blairs Ferry Road both feature our larger store design, which enables us to offer additional products and services to all of our customers in Marion."

Kum & Go stores are saving energy and water through the company's commitment to sustainable practices. The new, larger stores, such as the one in Marion, are designed, constructed and submitted for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Kum & Go currently has 60 LEED-certified stores, with 11 additional projects under construction, claiming the most of any convenience retailer in the nation.

Sustainable features of this new Kum & Go store include Solatube skylights, LED lighting (both inside and outside the store), low-flow, water-efficient fixtures and highly energy-efficient equipment. Each store is built using recyclable and locally sourced materials.

"Building more sustainable stores is just one of the many ways we live our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen in the communities where we operate," said Krause. "Another way is by donating 10% of our company's profits each year to a variety of nonprofit charitable organizations in the communities we serve."

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go has two stores in Marion and 150 stores throughout Iowa. It has more than 420 convenience stores in 11 states (Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming).
