Japanese chain's U.S. footprint grows

TORRANCE, Calif. -- Famima Corp., the U.S. branch of Japan's FamilyMart Co. Ltd., has opened its 12th convenience store. The newest Famima!! store is located in the Pacific Center in downtown Los Angeles.
"We want to be known as a premium grocery, quick-service restaurant and convenience store, all-in-one," said Shiro Inoue, Famima Corp.'s president and CEO, on the occasion of an earlier store opening. "While we specialize in offering convenient, ready-made foods and other, every day necessities, we focus on providing high-end service and high-quality [image-nocss] products, as well.
Famima!!'s Amerasian product line includes gourmet sandwiches, salads, sushi, deli, dim sum, soup, freshly baked desserts, packaged specialty foods, organic gourmet coffee, gourmet prepared meals ready for the microwave oven and an assortment of hot and cold drinks.

Famima was founded in September 2004, with corporate offices in Torrance, Calif. It is the American brand name for one of Asia's leading c-store chains: FamilyMart, with more than 12,320 stores operating in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, and China and net sales of approximately $8.7 billion.
The company's other stores are located in Culver City, Glendale, Hollywood, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Pasadena (2 locations), Pasadena (Trio), Santa Monica, Torrance, West Hollywood and Westwood, Calif. Its goal is to have 250 stores by 2009.
