BEAVER DAM, Wis. -- As a way to recognize and reward people who go above and beyond for their community, United Cooperative, a retailer based in Beaver Dam , Wis., with locations throughout south-central and east-central Wisconsin, launched Tanks of Thanks in its Cenex convenience stores. The program, initiated by Cenex--the CHS energy brand--gives free fuel to those who make their communities just a little bit better.

“Many of our customers are doing good deeds in their local communities every day,” said Darlene Peterson, manager of United Cooperative’s Kendall Cenex convenience store. “A teenager who shovels driveways or goes grocery shopping for elderly neighbors, parents and leaders who coach youth sports, and volunteers who organize fundraising efforts--we want to recognize them for their generosity.”

The Tanks of Thanks program gives Cenex retailers, customers and anyone else in the community a new way to say “thank you” to neighbors, friends and family by recognizing their good deeds and

nominating them for free fuel from their local Cenex convenience store.

United Cooperative’s Cenex Convenience stores each nominated citizens in their local communities to receive $50 Cenex gift cards for volunteering and doing good deeds. Forty-two recipients were announced in December.

“As a Wisconsin-based cooperative, we are proud to be a part of the communities we serve,” said David Cramer, United Cooperative president and chief executive officer. “I know there are a lot of great people doing a lot of good things in this state, and these acts of kindness do not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Tanks of Thanks is our way to celebrate these good deeds and encourage others to contribute to their communities.”

Formed in 1936, United Cooperative is a full-service cooperative with feed, grain, agronomy, fuel, lubricant and propane locations throughout Wisconsin. They documented $643 million in sales in 2012, up $120 million from 2011.

CHS Inc. is the nation’s leading cooperative, owned by farmers, ranchers and co-ops across the United States. Among other activities, the company operates petroleum refineries/pipelines and manufactures, markets and distributes Cenex brand refined fuels, lubricants, propane and renewable energy products.
