It was only a matter of time before fuel prices began to rise--or at least stop dropping--again. After a remarkable 12 weeks of price declines, wholesale petroleum prices rose 2.3 cents per gallon on a national average during the week of Jan. 18, 2015, making the national average wholesale price of a gallon of unleaded $1.356. The turnaround favored branded fuel, which grew by less than unbranded, in general, according to OPIS data.
