Guinn Asks Panel to Look Into Gas Tax Increase
Nevada governor seeking money for roads

CARSON CITY, Nevada -- Governor Kenny Guinn has asked a committee to look at tying gasoline tax increases to inflation, reported KLAS-TV.
Nevada ranks in the top five states in the nation with the highest gasoline tax already, said the report.
Spokesperson Steve George clarified the governor's position: He is not championing that particular issue as a way to solve highway funding in the future. He was merely suggesting that is one of the many areas this blue ribbon committee should be exploring, he told the news outlet.
A recent Nevada Department of Transportation study showed the state will not have enough money for roads to keep up with the growing population, the report said.
The committee will have to give recommendations to lawmakers by the 2007 legislative session to keep the fund going, concluded KLAS.
