CANASTOTA, N.Y. -- Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes has instituted a "100% ID policy [on] alcohol, tobacco, lotto and lottery," the company announced Friday on Twitter and Facebook. "Effective Monday, August 12 #niceneasy will require ID for all age restricted products regardless of your age." it tweeted.

It elaborated in a Facebook post: "Attention customers: Effective Monday, August 12, Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes corporate locations will require ID for all age restricted products regardless of your age. This includes: alcohol, tobacco products, lotto and lottery. Please have your ID ready. Valid identification includes: Non-expired state driver license, passport, military ID, non-driver state ID."

It added, "Mandatory ID should be a NY state law and we hope that it is soon. We decided to take this 'age judgement' decision out of our employees hands. They not only lose their job on a NY state sting failure, they are also arrested and fined; we are also fined and risk losing the license to sell all of these products to you. We appreciate your cooperation in having your ID ready when purchasing age restricted products."

In other company news, the retailer held a grand opening celebration on Aug. 10 for a new store in Sylvan Beach, N.Y. (watch embedded Vine video).
