KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Pilot Flying J has entered into a second year partnership with Pete Thomas, motivational speaker, author and Season 2 at-home winner of NBC's The Biggest Loser. Pete Thomas serves as the 2014 Pilot Flying J Health Champion, dedicated to helping employees and drivers improve their health.
"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Pete Thomas as our Pilot Flying J Health Champion," said Pilot Flying J employee services manager Dave Parmly. "Over the past year, we have watched both our employees and customers really take to Pete. They look up to him not only as a health advisor, but also as a motivational speaker. Everyone has been inspired by his infectious energy for life and his passion for health."
As the Pilot Flying J Health Champion, Thomas will represent the company and educate and inspire audiences at a variety of internal and external industry-related conferences and events. In addition, Thomas will appear at the company's 2014 PJ Fresh Marketplace openings, a concept the company introduced last year touting food options that are fresh, healthy and quick.
Thomas will also continue to customize health and fitness content for customers in a variety of multi-media formats as well as ongoing engagement via social media. As the author of "Pete's Picks at Pilot Flying J," Thomas has created placards and video vignettes that show Pilot Flying J customers how to eat healthy at the company's travel centers and travel plazas nationwide.
"I'm very excited about continuing to assist Pilot Flying J in providing health solutions for customers," said Thomas. "We've made great strides reaching out to professional drivers in 2013, but there is so much more we can do and I am excited to be able to take our health and wellness plan to the next level with Pilot Flying J."
In the following Q&A excerpt, Thomas discusses how he became affiliated with Pilot Flying J in 2010 and how he coaches professional drivers and Pilot Flying J team members on health and wellness.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. You were a participant on "The Biggest Loser"?
Thomas: Yes. I went on the show in 2005 weighing over 400 pounds. I was voted off the ranch after only 62 days, but before I left, I had lost 83 pounds. When I got home, I continued to learn about weight loss and wellness and lost another 102 pounds on my own. More importantly, I have been able to maintain my weight loss for over eight years and have been able to teach my principles to others.
Why did you decide to partner with Pilot Flying J? How did that come about?
Pilot Flying J first approached me after a seminar I spoke at in 2010 that their health consultant, Willis of Tennessee Inc., hosted in Knoxville, Tenn. After that, Pilot Flying J asked me to come speak at their annual leadership conference. Over the past four years, I have participated in these conferences by leading speaking engagements, early morning boot camp sessions, health fairs and wellness coaching for Pilot Flying J team members.
