Raise $114,000 to help fight breast cancer

Southern Division winners from Gate Store No. 1194

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Exceeding all other in-store campaigns in the history of the company for the second year in a row, the GATE Foundation presented the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign with a $114,000 donation generated by the sale of paper pink ribbons in all Gate convenience stores during the month of October.

“We are tremendously grateful to our customers and employees for their generous contributions toward this year’s campaign,” said Hill Peyton, GATE Foundation chairman.  “Individually, these demonstrations of hope and encouragement may seem small, but collectively they show true testament to the human spirit. We are proud to support the fantastic work of the American Cancer Society.”

In addition to the signature paper pink ribbons, which virtually wallpapered many Gate stores, associates showed their support by sporting pink shirts, in lieu of their traditional Gate uniform shirt, each Friday throughout the month of October. Additionally, Gate employees, accompanied by family and friends, participated as a team in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk held in Jacksonville, Fla.

Customers of Gate Store No. 1194 in Tallahassee, Fla., in the Southern Division and Store No. 229 in Douglas, Ga., in the Northern Division supported the cause in a big way, boasting the highest percentage of ribbon sales. Gate Store No. 1203 in Jacksonville came in at honorable mention with the highest number of ribbons ($7,570 worth) sold overall.

The GATE Foundation, the philanthropic entity of Gate Petroleum Co., supports efforts and services that nurture and protect the well-being of family and community. Gate is a privately held, diversified corporation headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla.  Over the past seven years, Gate has raised more than $360,000 in support of the fight against breast cancer.
