McDonald’s rolls out “poppable” extension with sustainability message
OAK BROOK, Ill. -- McDonald's announced its intention to launch Fish McBites nationally via its Twitter page this week, according to a report on QSRweb.com. The product has been in test since early 2012 in markets such as Fort Worth, Texas, and is a spinoff of the chain's popular Chicken McBites, which were introduced in January 2012.
The Fish McBites feature "poppable" white flaky Alaskan pollock, responsibly sourced and wild caught from sustainable fisheries, according to the report. The McBites will be available in three sizes: "Snack" (3 oz.), "Regular" (5 oz.) and "Shareable" (10 oz.), according to the Huffington Post.
It wasn't clear at press time if Fish McBites are a permanent addition to the McDonald's menu or a limited time offer.
To mark the launch, McDonald's is hosting a music-video contest with the chance to win money. Fans who submit a music video about the Fish McBites are eligible to compete for cash prizes totaling $40,000. Submissions will be accepted through Jan. 4.
