C-store sales of energy shots were anemic for a second straight year, declining nearly 9% in dollars and falling 8% in units. Weight control/nutrition liquids continued to see gains in 2013, up nearly 10% in c-store dollar sales and nearly 8% in units. The Muscle Milk brand claimed more than two-thirds of dollar sales in the subcategory, but VPX Redline Xtreme and Core Power brands showed significant growth in that segment, according to IRI.

Ramen soups remain popular in c-stores, but unit sales are flat for the 52 weeks ending May 18. Dollar sales are up 5% with Nissin and Maruchan brands locking up nine of the top 10 most-popular types in c-stores.
