HAMPTON, Va. -- Zooms Inc., a convenience store operator with 13 locations on the Peninsula in Virginia, has sold the chain to 7-Eleven Inc., according to a report by The Virginian-Pilot. 7-Eleven bought all of the Zooms locations as of Friday, David Erbe, 7-Eleven's market manager on the Peninsula, told the newspaper.

Zooms executives at the company's headquarters in Hampton, Va., confirmed the sale of the c-stores for the newspaper, but did not provide further details. All Zooms stores have closed, the report added. Most of them will remain shut for two to three weeks for remodeling before they reopen as 7-Elevens stores.

Locations in Poquoson and Gloucester, Va., are scheduled to reopen this week, then close again in a month or two for remodeling, Erbe told the paper.

Although most sites operate as local franchises, the Dallas-based retailer will run them as corporate stores for now, said the report.
