Open Pantry MS Walk Raises $36,000 Retailer's 80 employees named top fundraising team

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. -- Open Pantry Food Marts of Wisconsin Inc.'s Multiple Sclerosis walk team raised the most proceeds for the 2008 MS Walk in the state of Wisconsin. Led by president and CEO Robert Buhler, the team, consisting of 80 dedicated team members, raised more than $36,000. It was presented with a poster naming it the "2008 Top Fundraising Team" to commemorate the effort.
The walk on Milwaukee's lakefront included more than 3,000 participants that helped try to find a cure to this devastating illness by raising funds for the National MS Association.
"[Open Pantry's] team showed the enthusiasm that is displayed in our stores everyday," said Buhler. "The pride in earning this award goes to all who walked and raised money for our walk team. Open Pantry employs 300 team members, and to have almost 30% of them participate in the walk was a great credit to the spirit of caring at Open Pantry."
Pleasant Prairie, Wis.-based Open Pantry operates 26 convenience stores in Wisconsin and northern Illinois. It also services 20 dealers and carries the CITGO, BP, Mobil and Shell brands of fuels. Corporate-level merchandise sales are $30 million, the company said, with more than 41 million gallons of gasoline. Open Pantry's total revenue in 2007 exceeded $160 million.
