Vendor receives 2009 Retailer Initiative Award
DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. names The Hershey Co. as the recipient of the company's 2009 Retailer Initiative Award at its annual merchandising award dinner and ceremony. This is the second time the iconic confectionery company has won the honor and the first time for any supplier-partner to win twice. Retailer Initiative is 7-Eleven's strategy for providing customers with what they want through item-by-item management at each store.
This annual honor recognizes a top supplier and partner that excels in supporting 7-Eleven stores and meeting their customers' changing needs. Honored companies provide team merchandising, demand-chain solutions, beneficial cost of goods, category management, product innovation and creativity in advertising and promotional programs.

Snack cake maker launches new line of muffins
IRVING, Texas -- Snack cake maker Hostess Brands Inc. has launched a new line of portable muffins for families on the go. Baked with whole grains as well as real fruit, chocolate and nuts, Hostess' new muffins are available in Blueberry, Banana Nut and Chocolate Chip varieties.

CHICAGO -- The Food Channel.com has released its top 10 snack trends, one of its regular trend reports prepared in conjunction with CultureWaves, Mintel International and the International Food Futurists. "These trends are meant to inspire your back-to-school snacking," said Kay Logsdon, editor-in-chief of The Food Channel. "But they also show how people are eating today, with smoothies and energy bars functioning as meal replacements, and grazing with small bites throughout the day—sometimes never even sitting down to a meal."
